I decided to write this post after hearing the following sentiments one too many times, phrases that, quite frankly, I think are RIDICULOUS:
“I’m not creative like you.”
“Where do you come up with these ideas?”
“I never would have thought of doing that!”
You might be thinking, “Hey those are compliments, what’s the problem?” Well the problem is that I don’t buy it. I don’t believe that I am any more creative than your average Joe. In fact I believe that every single person is creative. I believe that inside each individual there is an imagination and a creative soul. The problem is that most people don’t nurture it, some people don’t even know it’s there!
I believe that everyone has the ability to think creativity if they are just given the right tools. So how about if I give you a tool, or more specifically 42 DAILY CREATIVE IDEAS to help you start utilizing that imagination of yours?
I created two pages, flyer style, of creative prompts you can use for 6 weeks. Simply print, cut, post, and tear off tasks as you do them.

One of the things I learned in art school was to develop habits that keep your mind fresh and open to new ideas. I tried out a lot of different methods, from sketching to journaling to observation exercises. A few of those ideas are listed in our creativity printable along with simple things you can try just to spice things up a bit, change up the routine and see something from a different perspective. Truly that is what creativity is all about and I bet you’ll find that by nuturing your imagination a little you’ll feel more inspired and energized.
Artist Corita Kent in her book Learning by Heart: Teachings to Free the Creative Spirit often asked her students to do nearly impossible things, like do 40 sketches of shadows by tomorrow, because she knew that sometimes when you stop thinking about something and just DO it, you leave behind judgment and free up your imagination from critique. I hope that these daily exercise will begin to loosen up your imagination and whatever it is that might be holding you back from being more creative.
