Every once in awhile I come up with one of those, “Why didn’t I do this ages ago?” easy projects.
Yesterday inspiration struck!
I was getting rid of a few things in my kids’ room including the Duplo Lego table we hadn’t used in a year or more and thinking to myself wouldn’t it be fun to make our own DIY Lego table? My Dad had purchased a bunch of LEGO Building Plates awhile back that usually sit stacked by a toy bin and I was dreaming up ideas for affixing those to a cheap little IKEA table when I looked in the corner of my kid’s room and noticed the 15”x15” orange cube table we had partially hidden by a stack of books….I brought it out, grabbed the lego plates, and magically one measured EXACTLY 15” x 15”! A quick hunt for the double sided tape, a few tape strips applied to the top of the table, and Viola! Our own super simple, Lego Table!
Materials:
- 1 or more Lego Building Plates
- Double stick tape
- Old or unused table, preferably the size of the top matches or comes close to the size of one or more combined building plates.
Instructions:
- Step 1: Place strips of double sided tape to the top of the table you are using.
- Step 2: Align the building plate on the center of the table and press down to make sure the tape and building plate are firmly pressed together and the table and plate edges align.
- Step 3: Oh I forgot, there is no step three because this is so easy!
For some reason just building on something different always brings a new wave of Lego inspiration to my son. He loved it! We started building a mini city, complete with cops and robbers.
You can complete this project with any side table you have collecting dust in an unused location. If it has a nice wood top you want to preserve I would suggest not using it as the tape may eventually pull off the finish. If the finish is not an issue or you are using a plastic table, tape away! Enjoy!
