Summer boredom SOLVED (at least for a week)

summer, unplugged

Before you know it June will be here. Will you be ready? With the end of the school year comes the inevitable excitement about a break from packing lunches, digging for homework folders and begging your kids to get out of bed in the morning...Calgon take me away!!!

And then a few weeks pass and you look at the calendar and wonder how many more days you can plan outings and activities without, well, losing your mind! And as the days seem to go slower, the iPads get handed over little faster...(there is no shame in this, we do it too!)  Keeping your kids happy and active all summer long is a LOT OF WORK.  So what if we told you can have a break AND your kids will be happily screen free?

 enter Camp STEAM

Camp STEAM is small boutique camp focused on hands-on activities exploring science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

My 7 yo daughter had the best week ever at camp! She learned a ton and came home so proud of everything she had made...now I have a little girl who's interested in science, robotics, and mechanics.-Candace

At Camp STEAM LA we are adventurers, tinkerers, discoverers, mistake makers, builders, observers, creators, messy players, inventors, designers, and dreamers - and we invite you to join us!

At Camp STEAM LA we are summer, unplugged. “I’m bored” is a thing of the past. We are a much needed break from screens and electronics and embolden our campers to imagine and dream.

At Camp STEAM LA we encourage thinking outside of the box. We love using common materials in uncommon ways and strive to empower our young inventors to explore the concepts of STEAM using nontraditional methods to build, engineer, construct, and create.

OUR PROJECTS ARE inviTING

OUR CREATIONS ARE NEW

OUR art is unusual

Our days are busy and loud and colorful and hands-oN

My son had a fabulous time making masks, flashlights, a clay crab and best of all, he spent hours building an airplane at the tinkering station. In fact, he got a lot of the kids trying to build airplanes!  There were so many crafts and fun things to do at this camp. -Elyse

And did we mention...we are the messiest.camp.ever. (and proud of it!)

what camp STEAM is:

  • We are open to kids ages 5-11. We break into smaller age-based groups during certain parts of the day, but encourage collaboration and cooperation amongst all campers.
  • We offer an empowering environment for young tinkerers to use their imagination, and we provide guidance and support without judgement.
  • We split our time between indoor and outdoor activities - there is always something to do!
  • We are run by three professional adults: Ana Dziengel, architect, Emily Stuver, art teacher with 20+ teaching years experience in LA schools, and Tammy Buchanan, co-teacher of Afterschool STEAM

what camp STEAM is NOT:

  • We are not your standard large day camp: we have space for approximately 20 campers per session.
  • We are not run by CITs (counselors-in-training)... though we do love CITs and will have them helping out at times!
  • We don't offer specialized tracks. All campers participate in the themed activities of the day.
  • We aren't overly academic. We believe in exploration first, and sprinkle in the learning as we go.

    what parents are saying

You weren’t kidding when you promised us a mess!”

“STEAM is the best camp ever! Run by fabulous intelligent mamas, you'll never have to worry that your kids are happy and well taken care of! It is truly the BEST!!!"

-Nicole

This is such a great camp.  My daughter had a blast and had nothing but amazing things to say about her experience here.  Every project that was done had a science learning element to it and great quality of materials used.  The teachers are very kind and patient and explain every question.  They really enjoy what they do.

-Kim
