There’s nothing like a simple and easy sewing project to get you back in the groove! This sewing project can literally be completed in a couple hours on a quiet Saturday morning.
I’ve taken a bit of a sewing hiatus lately due to being so busy with school prep but finally carved out a few hours this past Saturday to make a cute little skirt for my daughter.
The pattern is online at one of my favorite blogs MADE. It’s called the Simple Skirt and as promised by Dana Willard it is SIMPLE! And fabulous. Find the complete tutorial here.
I started by having my daughter Clara help pick out some fabric for her skirt. Here’s what she selected:
Very retro and very sweet.
Following Dana’s directions was easy peasy. I went with the double layer skirt using Method #2 for the waistband. Since I still haven’t had the guts to thread my new serger I used folded seams. I had some leftover extra wide bias tape from another project which I used on the bottom of each layer for a little pop.
The waistband does get a little bulky so next time I make this I’ll use two super lightweight fabrics to avoid the “bunch” at the top. Clara doesn’t seem to mind though. Here is is in action.
Trust me, if you are looking for an easy sewing project this is it!
Enjoy!
